Kristian North is a genre-agnostic songwriter, musician, and composer based in Tio'tia:ke/Montréal. He has written, recorded, and toured original music extensively in North America and Europe since ~2003, both as a solo artist and band member. He has appeared at festivals including NXNE, Obey, La Noce, River and Sky, Pop Montreal, and Taverne Tour, and shared stages with Adam Green, Cindy Lee, The Sadies, and Wolf Parade. He has released three solo records in close collaboration with producer Renny Wilson, two on Mothland Records. From 2011 to 2016, he fronted Babysitter, who released two records on Psychic Handshake. As a producer (Regularfantasy, Rendezvous, Dosage), he has released records on Plush, Specials, and Maricas Records. Recently, Rendezvous was featured in ‘…and then we dance’ by James Emmerson, featuring Tilda Swinton and Julio Torres.

This experience in the music industry informs a compositional practice that values chance, live performance, and collaboration. His 2023 composition Remiges won the Hildegard Westerkamp prize at the JTTP 2023 and was performed in North America and Europe. His composition Mirror Life was a finalist in the Totem Électroacoustique 2025. With collaborator Mike Cassidy, he works on multimedia systems, most recently a modular environment to create visual music for lasers. North also works as a sound designer, with experience composing and integrating sound for experimental videogames (for Paloma Dawkins and Marie Leblanc Flanagan), theatre, multimedia installations, and films. North holds a BFA in electroacoustic composition from Concordia University and is currently pursuing an MA.
