Kristian North is a genre-agnostic songwriter, musician, and composer based in Tio'tia:ke/Montréal. Since ~2003, he has written, recorded, and toured extensively across North America and Europe, both as a solo artist and band member. He has appeared at festivals including NXNE, Obey, La Noce, River and Sky, Pop Montreal, and Taverne Tour, and has shared stages with artists such as Adam Green, Cindy Lee, The Sadies, and Wolf Parade. Between 2011 and 2016 he fronted the band Babysitter, releasing two records on Psychic Handshake. He has since released three solo albums in close collaboration with Renny Wilson on Mothland Records. As a producer (Regularfantasy, Rendezvous, Dosage), he has releases on Plush, Specials, and Maricas Records.
This experience in the music industry informs a compositional practice that values chance, live performance, and collaboration. North holds a BFA in Electroacoustic Composition from Concordia University and is pursuing an MA in transdisciplinary research. His soundscape composition Remiges received the 2023 Hildegard Westerkamp Prize (JTTP) and was performed in North America and Europe. His piece Mirror Life was a finalist in Totem Électroacoustique 2025. In recent years this output has also expanded to include digital arts and multimedia. With Augurs Wand, a collaboration with artist Mike Cassidy, he is creating visual music for lasers. Their most recent piece for three lasers, Third State, debuted at La Grande Nuit 2025 in Montreal.
